3 Tips to Managing Stress Within Your Healthcare Team

by | Nov 18, 2020 | Workplace Culture

If 2020 has shown us anything, leadership is ever important to surviving the uncharted times we’ve faced and that are ahead. We’ve seen them sung as heroes, we’ve heard their stories of great bravery and we’ve watched from our homes as they’ve shown up again and again – healthcare workers are essential, to say the least.

For many healthcare professionals, they are overworked and beyond the point of burnt out, yet there’s such little alternative for those who have taken an oath to serve humankind.

As the healthcare industry is expected to add more jobs than any other industry by 2022 we understand the opportunity to fill the talent gap of highly qualified candidates is essential.  Our team is dedicated to re-imagining the behaviors, beliefs, values, and normalities our world has when it comes to hiring. Our team is working to ensure that hiring is no longer just a quick process but an efficient one. As a trusted partner to many of the nation’s top healthcare organizations, we are committed to providing national healthcare and medical recruiting services.

Of course, one way to help manage and alleviate the stress of your healthcare teams is to hire additional staff. For some organizations, that is a realistic solution to plan for with 2021 just around the corner, yet for others, there need to be solutions outside of hiring (and we’re here for that too!).

Spread appreciation faster than germs:

Many healthcare organizations host employee appreciation events to celebrate their coworkers, yet in times of social distancing, events that give employees recognition can be challenging to host. Department lunches, holiday parties, and award ceremonies offer everyone the chance to hang up their stethoscopes and engage with coworkers without the pressures of work. But how can you offer that same stress-relieving experience amid a global pandemic? It’s time to get creative!

Reimagine break rooms:

Healthcare workers are facing extended shifts and increasing stresses. The need for a haven to break, relax, refocus and recharge is more than ever before important to the retention of each employee. For some, a comfortable place to have a snack will do the trick, but for others, a quiet place to claim 15 minutes of peaceful meditation is the quickest way to recharge. How can you reimagine your team’s break room to meet the needs of your team?

Encourage workplace wellness programs:

Working in healthcare places employees on the frontlines of seeing what the human body is capable of both positively and negatively. As doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals face high levels of stress on a daily basis, burnout compounding during a pandemic is a combination for failed employee retention. Thankfully, we’re seeing facilities around the country be proactive are take additional steps each day to help promote the well-being of their employees. In what ways has your organization helped to manage stress for all? Or what ways are you considering aiding your team in the coming weeks? Comment below!
