by | Jan 28, 2022 | For Companies

The key to growing a successful business is hiring the right people.  Hiring the right people is no easy task.  It is a serious job that takes great responsibility.  In 2021, employers had to respond to major workforce demands for remote work, flexible schedules, higher pay, and respect for health and safety. Now, more than 60% of the U.S. population is vaccinated, kids are back in school, and as the environment shifts, so has workplace expectations for employees and job seekers alike. Thus, leaving the future of a company in the hands of the choices made by the hiring manager.

As job seekers continue to have options when selecting where to work, employers are forced to ever-adjust to attract and retain top talent.

If you are struggling to claim top talent against your biggest competitors, it’s time to turn to a team that knows how to not only source but hire and retain the talent you desire.

Differentiation is the challenge for employers who need to hire in 2022.

How will you respond?

Here are 6 ways to improve your hiring process

  1. Improve Your Job Descriptions

Job openings are a-plenty online these days. In December 2021 it was estimated an 11 million jobs were open and waiting to be filled. Keep your job descriptions brief.  Mentioning only the most important qualifications and focusing on what your company can do for the candidate will narrow down the candidate pool.

  1. Focus on the Goals

Know what it is you are looking for and focus on assessing the candidate accordingly.  Skills and competence matter most.

  1. Improve More People in the Hiring Process

You are building a team.  Why not start the process that way.  Invite some colleagues to join the interviews and ask their opinions of the candidates.

  1. Embrace Social Media

You can vet a candidate using their social media profile.  This will give insight into their personal and former employees.  But also note that candidates are seeking jobs at companies that embrace technology.  If you want to attract the best, show that you foster a culture of innovation and welcome digital natives.

  1. Ask the Right Questions

When asking questions, try to learn more about the candidate’s skills, knowledge, and interests.  Your job is to find out if they can do the job, not if they can answer one of your creative questions.

  1. Offer a Survey

Want to know what the candidate thought about the interview?  Just ask.  Offer a brief survey at the end of the interview.  Ask questions about the interview, the job ad, etc.  Their feedback will help you improve your approach.
