JOB SUMMARY: The Systems Engineer II provides technical leadership for specific Client/Server enterprise infrastructure systems to ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation to support core organizational functions. This is achieved by monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all networked software and associated operating systems. The Systems Engineer will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues in order to maximize the benefit of IT systems investments. The System Engineer II provides Tier 3 and 4 level support within the organization. The Systems Engineer II position is responsible for specializing in at least one of the following areas: EMC Storage, Citrix, EPIC Client Server Management (ECSM), AIX, Linux and/or VMware. PRIMARY JOB DUTIES: 1. A Technical Team leader for at least one of the Client/Server technical teams who are responsible for the assessment, design, implementation and support of the EPIC ECSM, Vmware, Citrix, AIX/Linux, Windows and/or EMC Storage technologies. 2. Work with the Systems Architect to ensure that proposed and existing Client/Server systems are aligned with organizational goals and objectives. 3. Work with the Client/Server technical teams, System Architect and Systems Performance Engineers to ensure the appropriate technologies are monitored to provide event, incident management and problem management. 4. Effectively leads event management, incident management and problem management as it relates to the Vmware, Citrix, AIX/Linux, Windows and/or EMC Storage technologies. 5. Provide technical expertise, direction, and assistance in the area of EPIC ECSM, Citrix, VMware and/or EMC Storage to Systems Analysts, Systems Engineers, and other technical teams. 6. Develop, document, and communicate plans for investing in Client/Server technology, including analysis and cost reduction opportunities. 7. Works with Systems Architect and Client/Server Technical Teams to engineer systems to accommodate the growth and integrity of the EPIC ECSM, Vmware, Citrix, AIX/Linux, Windows and/or EMC Storage technologies. 8. Responsible to ensure all daily activities are consistent with job addendum which outlines specific responsibilities in the area of EPIC ECSM, Citrix, VMware and/or EMC Storage. 9. Communicates effectively in order to provide optimal support of all departments’ Information systems needs in a manner that promotes a professional climate throughout the Medical Center. 10. Provides Tier 3 and 4 level support by responding to escalated Help Desk requests from end-users; defining priorities, answering questions and resolving problems. This support includes participating in the IS on-call rotation. 11. Troubleshoots problems with Client/Server technologies and applications. 12. Maintains knowledge of current technology. 13. Maintains current and orderly reference library, including working with Client Server technical teams to maintain up-to-date documentation and comprehensive inventory of all supported systems. 14. Works with technical support vendors to resolve systems issues and problems. Works closely with the Technical Teams and IS Manager to document levels of maintenance to include vendor contact, support contracts and or spare parts and or redundant system information and maintains the information monthly/quarterly and annually. 15. Helps define and maintain standards, procedures and policies relating to Client/Server technologies: EPIC ECSM, Vmware, Citrix, AIX/Linux, Windows and/or EMC Storage. 16. Implements and leads Client/Server Technology projects. Effectively communicating system upgrades and downtimes while escalating issues within the organization as needed. 17. Helps the Information Systems Manager prepare annual budgets. 18. Participates on the Production Quality Committee as needed. 19. Assist in the review of all Change Control Requests submitted by Network Services. 20. Effectively demonstrates the mission, vision, and values of the medical center on a daily basis. 21. Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements: ESSENTIAL JOB SPECIFICATIONS: 1. Education: BS in Computer Science or related technical degree require while an Associates degree with three years of Systems Engineer experience is acceptable. Can be waived with 5 years or more of consummate related work experience as determined by Manager of Information Services. 2. Licensure/Certifications: Certifications within EPIC ECSM, Vmware, Citrix, Windows, AIX, Linux, EMC Storage or similar products or systems are required. 3. Experience: Three years of supporting and implementing Client/Server Technologies.
